The story so far...

Metropolitan Community Church first visited Inverness a year ago.

In February 2007, the Reverend Jake Tatton and Rhoda Meek from Metropolitan Community Church in Edinburgh drove up to talk to people at the then ReachOut Highland Centre. Some really good conversations took place. One of the people they met was Mike Kirby who had been leading the Gay-ness Social Group earlier that morning.

They kept in touch, and later in 2007, the Gay-ness Social Group invited Rev Jake back to take part in a coffee morning, and tell people a bit more about MCC. Jake and Rhoda (and the dog) spent a great morning chatting with people and it became clear that there was a lot of interest in starting an MCC group in Inverness.

And so, in November 2007, the first MCC group in Inverness gathered in the Volunteering Highland Centre on Millburn Road. 15 people attended, and it was quickly realised that a bigger venue would be needed.

The RNI Chapel on Ness Walk was offered as a venue, and so the second Inverness gathering, on the 16th of December was a carol service with an attendance of 17.

Now, in February 2008, a year since the first visit by MCC, there is a growing church community.

This LGBT History Month MCC in Inverness is holding its fourth service.

What's next?

MCC in Inverness has come a long way in the last year, but there is a long way still to go!

MCC in Inverness is not yet a fully formed church.

The next steps are to plan what we want the church to be and how we will make it happen.

We will need a committee, a treasurer, people willing to do music...and lots more besides!

So, we plan to have a planning day!

It will be an opportunity to get to know each other, have some fun, start to think about what the church will look like and get down to the nitty gritty of what that will involve...

It will be on: Saturday 15th March.

@ Volunteering Highland, Millburn Road, Inverness. Starting at 2.30pm

Bring a packed tea and some imagination tea, coffee and biscuits (and Rev Jake's questionable sense of humour) will be provided.
